About 真多呂人形

A traditional craft inheriting 280 years of technique. Assured quality, backed by history.

Since its founding in 1919, 真多呂人形 has carried on the technique and aesthetic of the kimekomi doll, handed down for about 280 years since the Edo period.

The kimekomi doll

traces its origins to Tadashige Takahashi, who served at Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto,

and has been refined and developed from generation to generation.

Building on that traditional technique, the first-generation Mataro Kanabayashi added his own original ingenuity,

giving rise to the elegant, finely expressive “真多呂人形.”

Today, 真多呂 is the only maker certified by Kamigamo Shrine as the orthodox successor of the kimekomi doll. Each work, finished one by one by the hands of our artisans, is highly regarded as a traditional craft.

The skill and sensibility honed over a long history, brought into modern life. 真多呂人形 carries the traditional beauty of Japan into the future.
